Last month, a notice signed by the Chairman of the Limbe Muslim Jamaat (LMJ) announced that trustees made a tough call to close down all Masjids under LMJ, considering the corona virus cases in Malawi. A month later, LMJ is considering opening the mosques with strict preventative measures applied.
LMJ volunteers will be standing at entrances of the mosques to provide masks, as wearing masks will be compulsory. On the other hand, LMJ has emphasized that Musallees must not exceed 100, while social distancing will be ensured amidst the congregation.
Part of the instructions by LMJ also show that Zohr, Asr, Magrib, Taraweeh and Jummah will be facilitated at Kanjedza Kabrastan and Mpingwe Sports Club. “Limbe and Kanjedza Mosque will be having 3 Jummahs and Zohr to share and divide the flow of people.” says a circular on Whatsapp. One Jummah at Royal Motors can be managed to further reduce overcrowding at mosques and flow of people at venues considering Ramadhan factor, while all Nawafils will be prayed at home.
In efforts to prevent the Musallees from spreading/contracting the coronavirus, handshakes or hugs are forbidden, while Iftaar gatherings and food servings STRICTLY NOT allowed. For more information, the Chairman of the Limbe Muslim Jamaat.
