Malawi Airlines is Malawi’s flag carrier. It is a competitive, market driven, customer focused, passenger and freight air transport service provider.  It provides reliable and easily accessible regional air connectivity for business, tourism and other purposes. The Airline operates from Lilongwe and Blantyre connetingn to the busiest cities of Southern Africa.

Malawi Airlines was established on August 22nd, 2013, and started its operations on January 31st 2014. It is a Private Public Partnership institution established by Malawian Government (51%) and its strategic partner Ethiopian Airlines (49%). It was put in place years after the liquidation of Air Malawi which was then Malawi’s Flag carrier. It is a separate entity from the liquidated Air Malawi.

In addition to providing air transport, freight services and promoting the image of Malawi, through its activities, the airline is playing vital role in the economic growth by facilitating access for tourism, investment, enhancing trade and generates and saves hard currency for the country. The company therefore assists the development of the country.
