Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) says it is advancing on the implementation of cyber security-related activities outlined in the Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act of 2016. Earlier this year, the Authority got a head nod from government after it developed a five-year National Cyber Security Strategy.
Macra started implementing the National Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert), which will take charge of Malawi’s information infrastructure protection actions and serve as a base for national coordination to respond to information and communication technology security threats.
On the other hand, during a media briefing, Macra decried the vandalism of infrastructure. The Head of National Addressing Project, Limbani Sekeni, said that metallic sign posts that are being erected by the Authority are being vandalized. The Authority’s Technology Manager, John Jairos, said the institution is keenly watching people who abuse others using phones and ICT services.
