The inflation rate this year is suspected to drop, if the maize harvests increase as estimates say.According to the estimates, maize output is expected to rise from 2.6 million metric tonnes (MT) last year to 3.3 million MT this year.
During the Monetary Policy Committee meeting in January, RBM governor Dalitso Kabambe said favorable weather conditions would result to higher agricultural output, which will be one of the factors contributing to a low inflation rate at the end of 2019.
Various analysts have also agreed on the maize yield’s impact on the inflation rate.
