Malawi and Tanzania will hold Trade and Investment Forum in July this year, it has been confirmed.
The Tanzanian High Commissioner to Malawi Benedicto Mashiba said the joint Trade and Investment Forum will run from 26th to 27th July 2018 in Tanzania.
This follows a Permanent Commission for Cooperation which the Republic of Malawi and the United Republic of Tanzania held from 3rd to 5th February in 2017 in Lilongwe.
One of the agreed actions was that the two countries should be holding joint trade and investment forums to promote trade.
At the meeting, Tanzania showed interest to be the first to host such a forum which authorities have now confirmed that it will be held at Mkapa Conference Center in Mbeya this year.
Speaking at preparatory meeting held in Mzuzu city, Malawi, Mashiba said his country is ready to host the forum which he said will help both countries in terms of sharing business activities.
“Tanzania is ready to hold the first joint forum and preliminary arrangements that authorities from the two countries have had are encouraging.
“This will help authorities from the two countries find solutions to problems small scale businesses face, and ensure each country benefit from the other in terms of sharing business activities,” he added.
On her part Director of Private Sector Development in the Ministry of Trade in Malawi, Esther Mwimba, agreed that the forum will help to boost small scale businesses.
Over 500 private sector participants from the two countries are expected to patronize the forum which will focus business and policy discussions in the sectors of trade and industry, tourism, agriculture, fisheries transportation and others.
