Biznews reported weeks ago on 6th June, that there are incidents of robberies that are occurring, whereby intruders are entering people’s residences upon arrival of owners vehicle. More incidents have been reported to the police as the incidents have been growing in numbers and worsening. The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has addressed the matter, in a statement released today (27th June 2019).
The statement has noted that the areas most prone to the incidents are Chapima Heights, New Naperi and
Mapanga. The statement reads, “So far a total of six [6] key suspects have been arrested in connection to these robberies and a rifle has been recovered.”
MPS has assured the general public not to fear as security measures have been put in place to combat the robbers. “ We have intensified police patrols in the targeted areas and our investigators are on ground to put this gruesome crime to a complete stop. Furthermore, MPS is advising residents of these areas not to live in fear as the situation is under control.” says part of the statement.
The statement, signed by Senior Superintendent James Kadadzera, who is Public Relations Officer by MPS, has urged Malawians to avoid sharing sensitive videos, pictures or texts that have the ability to injure others in one way or the other including revealing names and particulars of victims of crime for example Rape and Defilement.
