Out of 180 post offices, only 30 are making profits, resulting into a K500 million loss per year. Malawi Posts Corporation (MPC) Post Master General, Henry Shamu, revealed the news during a tour by Information and Technology Minister Mark Botomani.
Shamu also revealed that MPC had procured seven buses, a move aimed to portray relevance on the market. “We hope that our services will be unique because we will be able to deliver mails same day and offer customers comfortable travel,” Shamu said. MPC will also introduce a digital mobile money system dubbed Zaphcash, on which customers will be able to transact digitally.
On the other hand, the Minister commended MPC, saying that most of the services MPC has been providing have been taken over by the changing world. He also advised the management of MPC to be business-minded. “We hope that with the robust commercial directorate that they have, they will be on top of the game,” Botomani said.
