During the 14th session of Malawi-Zambia Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security held in Blantyre, Malawi was urged to ratify the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) if it is to move together with its neighbours on defence and security issues.
Peoples Federation for National Peace and Development (Pefenap) Executive Director, Edward Chaka, said such sessions cannot yield anything unless Malawi ratifies the Treaty. The Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), was adopted by the UN General Assembly to regulate international trade in conventional arms by establishing the highest international standards and to prevent and eradicate the illicit trade and diversion of conventional arms.
During the meeting, heads of security agents in Malawi and Zambia agreed to work together in tackling in tackling cross- border car thefts, drug and human trafficking poaching, illegal migration, illegal mining and increasing threat of terrorism.
