The Minister of Information Gospel Kazako announced the appointment of George Kasakula as the new Director General for Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).
The news was broken alongside MBC Board Chairperson Reverend Vasco Kachipapawho explained that Kasakula emerged the best during interviews that were held in March this year, where 50 people applied and 8 were shortlisted.
Prior to the appointment as the Director General of MBC, Kasakula has been Times Group Editor-in- Chief, as he looks forward to establishing a “professional” MBC. “I know that it is a big challenge because I know what Malawians want. They want an MBC that belongs to them, an MBC that is professional.” said Kasakula “So, it will be a challenge to change the culture and everybody towards this goal. It is a beautiful challenge and I am ready for it,”
Kazako outlined that it is the new Director General’s task to ensure that MBC functions independently. “This government wants an MBC that is independent, fair, ethical and an MBC that should get back to Malawians. We expect it to take its responsibility of being a custodian of our culture and social construction; so, we all look up to Kasakula for this change,” Kazako said.
