Having noted that there has been an influx of various types of hand sanitizers on the market, the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has recommended products from five manufacturing companies to supply hand sanitisers aimed at enhancing hygiene amidst coronavirus pandemic.
“We held a meeting with stakeholders under the technical committee responsible for the development of standards for the disinfectants, antiseptics and bleaches to draft Malawi standards for the products.” says a statement signed by MBS Director General Symon Mandala.
After manufacturers voluntarily brought samples of hand sanitisers for testing to check conformity with standards, MBS has approved 5 companies to produce hand sanitizers. The chosen 5 are Ethanol Company Limited, KenChem, Kadora Enterprises, Purity Sanitary Products Company Limited and Charma Chemicals and Distributors.
However, Mandala outlined that more brands of sanitisers are being tested, to be updated on the list.
