Malawi Bureau of Standards has urged consumers to check with experts when importing renewable energy products, warning that counterfeit solar systems exist on the market.

MBS Standards Officer revealed that the bureau conducts periodic and random market surveys, market audits and surveillances to ensure quality service; an exercise that has revealed abundant counterfeit solar products on the market.

Obviously the products have been available to take advantage of last year’s frequent power outages, but the Community Energy Malawi has revealed that Mera (with other stake holders) is enhancing consumer awareness and education on renewable energy.
