After an outbreak of African Swine Fever in January and resolving to ban pig slaughter, the Mchinji Agriculture Development Office has extended its ban to 22 June 2019,
The outbreak was recorded in Mikundi, Masati, Mchifuwa, Mnjere and Makumbi areas, as some farmers have been reported to be migrating their livestock to other areas, further spreading the disease.
Mchinji district animal health and livestock development officer Alexander Phiri warned that the ban would be extended to the whole district, if farmers do not abide.
