Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) has updated regulations for installation and issuing of permits for the energy sector. Mera Board Chairperson, Bishop Joseph Bvumbwe, hailed the update as necessary as the energy sector is advancing in Malawi. “Therefore we need to stay on course with developments that are taking place” Bvumbwe said.
Bvumbwe also attributed the update to the rising demand for electricity hence electricity installation updates had to be issued for stakeholders in the energy sector. “These revised regulations have taken seriously issues of safety to ensure that the installers are well trained and that, when they are installing electricity, they are safe.” he said.
Mera recently reviewed pump and wholesale prices for Petrol, Diesel and Paraffin, announcing that the new pricing is the same as announced on 12th January 2019.
In a statement, the Authority said that the resolve follows Mera Board’s assessment of FOB prices on the international market and exchange rate movements, as well as the subsequent decision to cushion the noted increase of the landed cost of the three petroleum products through the Price Stabilisation Fund (PSF).
