During the closure of game changing strategies development for local councils, minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ben Phiri, urged District Commissioners to renew their commitment and focus as well as dedicate all their effort in the implementation of the game changer strategies.
The minister challenged the DCs further by casting a vision for a corrupt free future of councils in Malawi which were corrupt free, development conscious and a pride for the people of this country.
In his remarks on behalf of all CEO’s and DC’s Mr Rodney Simwaka, DC for Nkhtabay local council said the week had become a paradigm shifting moment in running of local councils in Malawi. He said the week had seen increased commitment by DC’s to generate game changers as strategies along several thematic areas such as finance, human resources, economic development and infrastructure development among other areas.
Simwaka, said progress had been made in terms of decentralisation and that what remains for councils is to translate the commitments into action on the ground so that the people themselves begin enjoying the country’s transformation towards a producing and exporting economy that is self reliant and at par with other progress countries.
