The Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare has commended First Capital Bank for its social cash transfer program. The Ministry has said that its objectives are in line with the banks initiative, therefore hailing the bank for that.
The secretary for the ministry, Erica Maganga said that due to the bank’s initiative, people’s lives are being transformed. The initiative was rolled out in 2014, a partnership between the bank and the ministry to deliver social cash transfers to beneficiaries in Balaka using e-payment, funded by the Irish Government.
“We have been to Thyolo, Phalombe and Mulanje where people’s lives where being transformed; they were able to build houses, buy basic needs and send their money to school and manage their small-scale businesses” Maganga said.
In 2018, the impact of the initiative was well appreciated as First Capital Bank was winner for the Innovation Award, acknowledging the bank’s e-payments for the delivery of social protection services on behalf of the Malawi Government and development partners.
First Capital Bank Head of transactional Banking, GIO and Marketing, Ewen Hiwa said the bank was committed to efficiently deliver.
