7044 people in Mangochi were affected by Cyclone Idai floods in march will be beneficiaries of a K408 million resettlement package by the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, funded by the German government and Britain’s Department of International Development (DfID).
The above was revealed by the ministry’s principal social welfare officer Tamandani Tukula, who outlined that the people would receive K58000 each. “The initiative is a direct response to flood survivors, following the calamities that befell them”, said Tukula as she briefed the district executive committee (DEC) members.
The initiative will be supported by World Food Program and UnitedNation’s Children Fund (Unicef), as the funds will be distributed by social cash transfers in traditional authorities (T/A) Chimwala, Mponda, Bwananyambi, Chowe, Katuli and Namabwi.
