The Maravi Asian Development Association (MADA) recently registered concerns and complaints from the Business Community regarding the Malawi Revenue Authority’s “Kuiphula ndi Lisiti Langa” campaign which has seen cash rewards for reporting traders who are not issuing EFD
Receipts.
MADA, as a duly registered membership-based
organization that represents minority businesses, raised the complaints and concerns to MRA, that (in some instances) traders actually issued an EFD receipts but the buyer did not take it.
Says part of a statement by MADA, “Any trader who has a genuine concern with sufficient proof/evidence that the receipt was issued yet they are being harassed or penalized this must be immediately reported to the undersigned for further action with the MRA authorities.

During the meeting with MRA, MADA representatives also requested that MRA engages in consultative
meetings with the business community before rolling out any initiatives. “MRA acknowledged the need for this and have assured MADA that serious steps will be
taken to ensure active stakeholder engagement in future programs.” says the statement.
