Some government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) have started dealing with Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), by ensuring that 60% of government procurement deals should be given to indigenous Malawians, while the remaining 40% will be awarded to foreigner business people.
Chamber for Small Scale Business (CSMB) Association Executive Secretary James Chiutsi has commended some parastatals and government agencies have started complying with the law, as Central Medical Stores Trust and the Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) are examples.
Section 44 (10) of the PPDA Act provides that 60% of government procurements should be given to indigenous Malawians with the remaining 40% being given to foreigner business people. Chiutsi also called on the Ministry of Trade to start producing the colour coded certificates, as stipulated in the order, to allow applications for the coded certificates to be processed in the absence of the Tax Clearance Certificate.
