Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) Malawi advised farmers in Mulanje District to practice climate smart agriculture, following the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services forecast that there would be heavy rains in some parts of the district and prolonged dry spells in other parts during this rainy season.
ADRA Better Extension Training Transforming Economic Returns (BETTER) Project Development Officer, Patrick Chayaka recommended climate smart agriculture as means of means of increasing farm productivity, regardless of weather adversities.
The climate smart strategy can benefit large scale farmers, whose businesses suffer due to adverse weather conditions as Malawi has recorded destruction of maize fields due to floods in 2018.
