The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has announced that it has finished piloting the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) program, which is being implemented in phases. A statement signed by the MRA commissioner general Tom Malata says that the program will help boost collection of revenues.
AEO is a voluntary certification program aimed at serving compliant taxpayers by giving them priority treatment to achieve trade facilitation to boost tax revenues. The pilot phase of the program was initiated in June 2018, as the statement outlines that the second phase of the AEO program involves focusing on accreditation of bonded warehouses and clearing agents and that transporters and freight forwarders will follow in the third phase.
“Malawi has moved two steps up on the World Doing Business ranking by the World Bank and when they were in the country for the survey, we received commendations for rolling out the AEO program.” says Tom Malata.
