Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) aimed at enhancing border patrols.
According to MBS Director General, Symon Mandala, said the move will help MBS enhance its capacity in checking imports and exports, as the signing will see the two parties sharing information “With the signing of this memorandum and integration into the Asycuda World, it means that our issues can be dealt with by the system even if we are not physically present at some places,” Mandala said.
On the other hand, MRA Commissioner General, Gray Thom Malata, hailed the partnership as a means to enhance the efficiency of the regulators but also consumer protection. “We work hand in hand with MBS to protect the public and the country from receiving prohibited products or products of low quality. Through the system, MBS will be able to see what is coming into the country and do their work,” Malata said.
