Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has announced that its online tax payment system, named Msonkho Online, will be effective from February 1.
MRA Head of Corporate Affairs, Steven Kapoloma, revealed that the First Value Added Tax payment through Msonkho Online is expected to roll on the same date, while Paye will launch on March 1, and all other taxes on June 1, 2020.
On the other hand, taxpayers with registration numbers should update their information through the Know Your Customer (KYC) system to access the Msonkho Online platform. “The platform will be available for familiarisation from the 16th [January]. All clients need to update their KYC but also all employers need to re-register their employees and present to the authority the workers National Identification Cards,” Kapoloma said.
In other digital initiative efforts, MRA announced the introduction of cargo systems on the borders of the country last year. Kapoloma outlined that so three scanners are operational at Mwanza and Songwe border stations while another one is at Lilongwe Inland Examination Centre. “Three scanners are operational at Lilongwe Inland Examination Centre, Songwe and Mwanza borders while works at Dedza site are at an advanced stage,” Kapoloma added.
