Msonkho Online, a digital tax-paying and management platform, will roll out in January next year on 16th January, as announced by the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) head of corporate affairs Steven Kapoloma, in Mangochi on Friday on the sidelines of the Association of Business Journalists (ABJ) Annual Conference and General Meeting.
Kapoloma described the system as a game-changer as it will transform MRA’s doing of business when interacting with taxpayers through electronic means. He also outlined that the initiative will eliminate all challenges MRA and taxpayers have been facing such as physical interactions, saying it is time-consuming and tedious, but with digitised system, taxpayers will transact wherever they are.
Meanwhile before the platform is rolled out, taxpayers provide tax compliance information online, but are still required to submit hard copies of their tax returns to MRA offices. Still, 2 months ago, Kapoloma, hailed the current system saying it is collecting over 80% of the taxes through E-Payment. Kapoloma presented this to the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, while stating that MRA is introducing a number of products and services through its modernization drive.
