Fire that destroyed Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) offices in Lilongwe’s Area 3 on Tuesday evening, caught up with various television and radio stations, which are currently off the air in the capital city and other districts.

The MTL tower which caught the fire, also hosts Malawi Digital Broadcast Network Limited (MDBNL) Kiliye Kiliye, Trans World Radio, Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) and Times TV/Radio.

A statement by Times Group Management has outlined that  radio services and television signal through MDBNL [Kiliye Kiliye] cannot be accessed. “Our engineers are working tirelessly to restore normal transmission as soon as possible,” the statement reads. On the other hand, ZBS Managing Director, Gospel Kazako said normal broadcasting will return within the next 24 to 48 hours.
