On Friday 23rd November, Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) will be officially launching a WiFi hotspot at Mzuzu University. “We are launching the Mzuni MiSPOT on the social weekend” says Gift Chapuma, MTL’s Marketing Manager. “we found the social weekend to be an opportune event to announce about it, considering that many students from various universities will be attending as well”
Mzuni is following the line of other universities that have MiSPOT, namely The Polytechnic in Blantyre, Assalaam Islamic institute and DMI in Mangochi. Commenting on the why there is a growing focus on tertiary institutions, Chapuma notes that students dont only need the internet, they need all the data they can use. “MiSPOT is unlimited” she adds, “this is convenient for the students’ assignments, downloads, research and many more”
The MiSPOT vouchers are available at affordable prices, from K500 per hour, K2000 per 5 hours and K3500 for a full 24 hours. Besides the named universities, MiSPOT is available in various MTL branches. “Our service centres are also open for customers that want to access WiFi”, said the Marketing Manager, “the MTL centers in Limbe and Blantyre have MiSPOT”. She also added that MTL service centers in Mangochi and Mzuzu have MiSPOT available, not to mention the stadium office by the roundabout near QUECH and HTD at Ginnery corner.
The Marketing Manager also announced that MTL plans to set up MiSPOT in more universities and service centers in the country.
