Malawi has welcomed her 20th U.S Ambassador to the Republic of Malawi, Mr. Robert K. Scott. In a ceremony at Sanjika Palace, H.E. President Arthur Peter Mutharika accepted the credentials of becomes the 20th U.S. Ambassador to Malawi.
The new Ambassador Scott expressed that the relationship between the United States and Malawi is deep and long-standing. “The United States Embassy team in Lilongwe is proud to continue to partner with all Malawians to advance Malawi’s economic development, strengthen governance, and promote the health and well-being of the people of the country.” said Scott
Prior to his appointment, Ambassador Scott served as Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of African Affairs at the United States Department of State. He previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassies in Harare, Zimbabwe and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and in multiple senior leadership positions at the United States Department of State.
Concerning credentials, Mr. Scott earned a B.A. from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin and an M.A. from American University, Washington, D.C. His record also shows that he also studied at Goettingen University in Germany on a Fulbright Grant. He is the recipient of fifteen senior Department of State awards and speaks fluent German as well as Ukrainian and French. Ambassador Scott and his spouse, Anne, are proud parents of twins.
