As part of the Ministry of Energy’s 10- year plan which is in line with aspirations in the Malawi 2063 development plan, the government has outlined plans of putting up an oil pipeline from a yet to be determined port in one of Malawi’s neighbouring countries.
The plan was presented by the Ministry’s officials, while Ministry of Energy Public Relations Officer Saiti Banda could not specify on the timeline of implementing the project, as a feasibility study must commence first.
Meanwhile, the ministry revealed goals for increasing power generating capacity with 498.3 megawatts (mw) within five years, confirmed by the Ministry’s Director of Energy Cassius Chiwambo, who revealed that the ministry is geared to implementing projects and programmes to increase electricity access rate to help contribute towards economic growth.
