Almost a year after Malawi and Tanzania had signed a document on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the Convention to establish the Songwe River Basin Commission, the project was officially launched.

The Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water development, Joseph Mwanamveka, officially launched the commission which will oversee the management of the project together with the Tanzanian Deputy Minister of Water, Jumaah Aweso.

The water basin is expected to improve Malawi’s agricultural sector by providing irrigation dams and ecosystem management.
