Parliament has announced that His Excellency Professor Peter Mutharika has given a head nod to proposed bills, one of which include the Dual Citizenship bill.

The new law has therefore annulled Sections 8-11 of the citizenship act, which stated that citizenship is lost once an individuals acquires citizenship in another country, also covering citizenship of children born outside of Malawi.

The new development allows dual citizenship, in order to improve the socio economic sector. As for children born outside of the country, they will be able to renew their citizenship at 21 years old.
