The Roads Fund Administration (RFA), has announced that Malawi’s first tollgate will be installed at Chingeni turn-off in Ntcheu, as part of the 20 toll gates set that will be erected on some of the major tarmac roads in the country.
According to RFA Administration chief executive officer Stewart Malata, the tollgates are projected to raise about K7 billion in non-tax revenue as government seeks to transform the road network.
On the other hand, Malata told Parliament’s Budget and Finance committee that the Roads Fund Administration has registered growth in revenues from K26.4 billion in 2015/2016 to K42.4 billion in 2018/2019.
The tollgate at Chingeni in Ntcheu will be erected in an area with settlers already, but the settlers are currently being vacated and compensated, according to Malata.
