Following complaints of anti-competitive practices among players in the poultry sector, the Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) plans to carry out a study in the poultry sector to assess the state of play of competition and dynamics in the poultry market.
Speaking to The Nation newspaper, CFTC spokesperson Innocent Helema said there have been rising complaints from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) over alleged widespread unfair and anti-competitive practices in the sector.
Meanwhile, Malawi poultry currently relies on its local markets; from restaurants, hotels and households. Last year, The Malawi Investment and Trade centre embarked on an initiative to promote local products and services into foreign markets; the subject of poultry products has been discussed.
