The Germany Deutscher Volkshochschul-Verband (DVV) International has launched the Adult Learning and Education in Prisons program in the Malawi Prisons Service, a development that will see the introduction of various vocational skills for inmates.
The program is being ran in conjunction with the Centre for Human Rights Education Advice and Assistance (Chreaa), as the skills include barbering, carpentry, tailoring, communication and conflict resolution. The program targets inmates aged 18 and above to equip them with hard and soft skills that will
support their lives after prison.
Hailing the program, Malawi Prison Service commissioner responsible for administration Dezio Makumba said learning various skills would reduce the number of habitual offenders in prisons nationwide
