The World Bank has funded a project in Malawi that will see free Wi-fi available in public hospitals and airports.
The Public Private Partnership Commission (PPPC) is overseeing the project, PPPC Digital Technology Specialist, Victor Funsani revealed that other than wifi, the project will also provide communication solutions. “Component number two of this project is digital connectivity but we have a sub-component which is universal service fund and will be running in conjunction with Macra,” Funsani said, while confirming that free wifi will be available in the said locations in March next year.
On the other hand, the country Malawi is implementing an initiative dubbed Malawi Digital Foundations Project which will modernise government operations, enable citizens to access public services as well as information online. Stakeholders of the project include the PPPC and the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) is expected to be completed by 2022.
