In support of Flood victims’ recovery interventions in four districts of Chikwawa, Nsanje, Phalombe and Mulanje, Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) has allocated K1.7 billion.
MRCS recovery project operations manager Felson Chikuse revealed the news during a cash transfer program at group village head (GVH) Kalima in Traditional Authority Maseya in Chikwawa. “We began the recovery project after phasing out the response activities in July. We started constructing shelters for the survivors. The houses are water resistant and environmentally friendly,” he said.
In May, Micro-Loan Foundation set aside a K10 million loan for flood victims in Phalombe and Lower Shire districts; as part of its corporate social responsibility, Micro-Loan Foundation has written off the loans.
According to Micro-Loan Foundation Chief Operations Manager Joseph Kaipa told Malawi News Agency (Mana) that the loan catered for 850 households that were affected by floods.
