The Minister of Health Jappie Mhango has confirmed that one person has died from Covid-19 making it the first death from the disease in Malawi.
Reports say the deceased, a resident of Blantyre, was an adult female in her early 50’s. As the responsible cabinet ministers are addressing the nation while implementing further prevention measures, the public has been strongly urged to follow the guidelines and advice imparted on the COVID 19 prevent measures.
Meanwhile, the country now has eight confirmed cases of Covid-19 from five cases in the past number of days since the first 3 cases. The Minister outlined that of the three new recorded cases,two are from Blantyre while one is from Chikwawa. The Minister of Local Government announced that there will be measures implemented to restrict congestion in markets, to avoid the spread of the virus, while reminding the general public that social and formal gatherings remain banned.
