The latest United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (Unido) report titled Industrialising in the Digital Age indicate that Malawi’s investment and technology capabilities is low at 0.1 against its probability of adoption of digital innovation of 0.5.
The report shows that more than 70% of the manufacturing sector still uses analogue technologies. Malawi’s uptake in digital industrialisation is low, as according to the report, as it compares 13 developing countries on the uptake advanced digital production (ADP).
During the recent Ecama Lakeshore conference, the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) Chief Executive Officer Chancellor Kaferapanjira advised Capital Hill to speed up the industrialisation drive as well as re-allocating resources from the current low-productivity areas to high-productivity sector or high labour absorbing sectors. He stated that the current structures for agricultural production are not sufficient for the growing population in Malawi.
