The Ministry of Agriculture says it is pondering exporting 1 million metric tonnes (MT) of projected surplus maize from the Affordable Inputs Program (AIP) which benefited 3.4 million farming households and goods rains.
The Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe confirmed that his ministry has partnered with the ministries of Finance and Trade and state produce trader Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc), to discuss best maize surplus export modalities. “We are trying to find potential markets outside the country and very soon we will be announcing possibilities of countries buying maize from us.” said Lowe.
In terms of managing the post-harvest losses among small-scale farmers, the agro-ministry will ensure that Admarc timely arrives on the market, to avoid losing maize to unscrupulous traders.
