Malawi will participate in the World Expo 2020 would be held in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, between October 20 2020 and April 10 2021. Malawi is aiming to gain $500 million (about K370 billion) in exports, according to the Ministry of Trade.
Expo 2020 is themed ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ followed by three subthemes; Mobility, Sustainability, and Opportunity, and Malawi will participate on the latter subtheme. Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Trade, Ken Ndala, said the government is aiming to gain foreign direct investment at the expo. “Using Conservative estimates, Malawi can attract three times the current levels of annual FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) pledges, currently averaging $800 million per year,” Ndala said.
Meanwhile Malawi Investment and trade centre (MITC), which is facilitating Malawi’s participation at the Dubai Expo, is gearing up for market opportunities of close to $300 million (about K222 billion) at the Horticulture Expo in China, from April 29 to October 7 2019.
