The Malawi Agriculture Policy Advancement and Transformation Agenda (MwAPATA) Institute has finally launched, witnessed by the Ministry of Agriculture, a year after the agricultural think tank was formed.
During the launch, the institute’s Board Chairperson and advisor Richard Mkandawire expressed expectations that the institute will help to support home grown policy generated in the country, while building the careers of young people. On the other hand, the Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe, outlined that MwAPATA brings together a coalition of the most important public and private sector, which will relieve the government from research findings from foreign institutions.
Prior to the development, it was evident that agriculture in the country is advancing; last year, some Chancellor College scholars were recruited to Nigeria-based International Institute for Tropical Agriculture and Enhancing Capacity to Apply Research Evidence (Care) (IITA -CARE) which trains youths in agri-prenuership in order to create self-employment.
