This week, a press briefing organised by the Mzuzu City Council (MCC) outlined that the city’s sanitation was at its worst since there has been no dumping site after the closure of Silo dumping site months ago.
The Mayor of the city, Brian Kondwani Nyasulu, explained that the temporal resolve is to reopen the closed facility which may worsen the situation. On the other hand, he disclosed that an alternate site was found. “We managed to find another place at Choma but it is not on good environment” said Nyasulu.
Meanwhile, 15 ward councilors of Mzuzu have called the City Council to answer for K91 million, as the councillors feels the funds have been misappropriated. In resolve, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has revealed that it will enforce effective the use of Integrated Financial Management Information System (Ifmis) in the 35 local government councils.
