The Minister of Health Khumbize Chiponda recently toured Mzuzu Central Hospital and Mzuzu Health Centre ordered that all construction works on the Mzuzu Field Hospital for treating Covid-19 patients should be completed within the week.
“Progress has been made, but we need to do more” said the minister, “They have started procurement, they have the beds and mattresses, but I have said within the week, let us open it.”
The ministry also outlined the procurement of an oxygen plant for the facility, since Mzuzu Central Hospital does not have an oxygen plant and relies on a small plant at Nkhata Bay District Hospital. Meanwhile, Malawi has registered 25,449 coronavirus cases, 761 deaths and 9814 recoveries
