The National Statistics office has released results for its 2018 population census. The first ever electronic census begun in September and was operating under a MWK30.3bn budget.
The results, released in Zomba, show that the population has grown by 35% since 2008, resulting into a total population of 17, 563 749.
The results show that the most populated regions seem to be those that are mostly commercial, namely Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mangochi which register 2.6 million, 1.3 million and 1.1 million respectively.
Malawi will soon join the African countries whose population are in the 20 millions, namely Niger, Madagascar, Ivory Coast Cameroon, Niger and Burkina Faso
