National Bank of Malawi (NBM) on May 31 donated 152 desks worth K6 million to Nkhotakota Secondary School, a development that the bank’s chief executive officer has attributed to being a Corporate Social Responsibility.
According to the school’s deputy headteacher Daniel Saka, Nkhotakota Secondary School is currently facing challenges where furniture and facilities are concerned, but NBM has brought change into the school as the desks will keep students from sitting on floors. The school is a cluster centre for three primary schools, hence the desks will be very useful during the primary school leaving certificate (PLSCE) exams.
“We are proud to make this donation to schools and we will continue supporting the education sector with various activities for national development,” said NBM Chief Executive Officer MacFussy Kawawa, as he revealed that National Bank also offers scholarships.
n his remarks, senior education methodology officer for Central East Education Division, Sakai Musopole, appreciated the gesture shown by the bank. He asked the bank to continue supporting education in the country.
He encouraged students to work hard and aim for higher education in order to be reliable citizens. He also advised students and staff members to take care of the furniture and have a sense of ownership. Nkhotakota Secondary School was established in 1964 and the school accommodates over 550 students.
