National Bank of Malawi (NBM) conducted a Youth Entrepreneurs training, last Friday at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre. The bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Macfussy Kawawa, said that since majority of Malawi’s population are the youth, the training was means of involving them in the financial cycles.
Kawawa said the bank expected number of youths accessing their services to grow as the bank brings tailor-made services and products to entrepreneurs.
“Our expectation is that there will be more activity by these young entrepreneurs and a better interaction with the bank,” Kawawa said. He also addressed that while Access to finance remains a challenge, the youth need to be given knowledge on how to approach banks.
In other news, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has challenged the private sector to create more opportunities for job creation and economic growth, as UNDP resident representative Shigeki Komatsubura said the private sector has a huge role to play in meeting the overarching challenge of poverty reduction and human development.
