The Malawi Confederation of Chambers and Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) on Thursday elected five new councilors to fill vacant positions, as the chamber has an establishment of 11 councilors —president, deputy president and nine other councilors— who come from the three regions of the country.
The new councilors were elected at an extraordinary General meeting held at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre, where MCCCI Chief Executive Officer, Chancellor Kaferapanjira acknowledged the importance of councilors in the chamber. We need guidance from the councilors from time to time to make sure that issues that members want sorted out are sorted out. In some cases, councilors are involved in direct lobbying with the government,” Kaferapanjira said.
MCCCI is a body of private sector players, looking after their interests and engaging the government and other authorities about various developments. Amidst the year, during the opening of the 31st Malawi International Trade Fair, Kaferapanjira advised local firms to look beyond the local market and take advantage of new opportunities.
During an extraordinary General meeting held at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre, the following were elected as new council members; Boyd Mwale, Reuben Kangawa, Dhares Kuyokwa Christopher Guta and Lusubilo Chakaniza.
