Mzuzu Dairy Limited has joined the market, providing profit means for dairy farmers in Mzuzu. The development follows after Dairiboard Malawi reported a shutdown, leaving a void for dairy farmers all over Malawi.

Prior to the Dairiboard announcement, the farmers in Mzuzu also suffered from the closure of Northern Diary, another buying company that closed in 2010. Mpoto Diary Farmers Association Chairperson Anna Tembo acknowledged that farmers had lost faith in the trade and those that remained faced massive losses. “Most of the time we were throwing away milk because we do not have storage facilities” said Tembo.

Mzuzu Diary Limited Managing Director Denis Chitowe said that his firm is ready to serve farmers, as the firm has a processing machine that will last for many. “We buy more than 2500 litres per day which is more than their supply” said Chitowe as he declared that Mzuzu Dairy Limited wants to be reputed as the best processor of milk products in the country.
