New seed trials that are going on in agri-ecological zones in the country, have bared fruit as new soya bean varieties have been unveiled, but there is yet to be an official introduction of recommended seed on farmers’ fields.

Meanwhile, Sunseed Oil Limited says that the development will increase business growth. The Sunseed Oil Projects Manager, Yamikani Jasi said that prior to the new varieties, Malawi only depended on three varieties, which was a limited farming experience.

In 2017, a seed trial exercise was conducted with 36 soy varieties from Ghana, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
