NICO Life Insurance Company its subsidiary NICO Pension Services Company members of staff made a donation of assorted items to Kondanani Children’s home in Bvumbwe, donated by staff members as means of giving back to the community.
NICO Pension’s Client Relationship Manager Stella Phanga said that Kondanani Children’s Village is a partner of the firm, hence the staff were eager to contribute to the children’s home. NICO Life Acting Business Development and Marketing Manager Nancy Bisika also attributed to the donation to the staff’s support for the children’s village, hence the donation to encourage the kids to live by the values they are brought up with.
The activities of Kondanani were launched by the former President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Dr Bakili Muluzi. Kondanani has various children’s homes and villages: There are 166 children in total (92 Boys and 74 Girls), currently all below the age of 18. The need for the establishment of the orphanage arose due to the high rate of HIV/Aids infection in the country, which is continuing to rob many children of their parents.
Due to the fact that many other orphanages would not admit babies because of the cost, and the fact that it is labour-intensive, Kondanani embarked on admitting such babies rather than leaving them to die in the villages. The first baby was admitted to Caring Hands Infant Home on 7 November 1998.
