The children’s cancer ward at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital had lit faces of patients and guardians as they were visited by Nissan Malawi. With some presents in hand, the festive season had surely begun with cheer and hope for the children.
“We wanted to share some snacks with them and cheer them up in this tough time” said Greg Hubbard, Managing Director for Nissan Malawi, who also stressed that to give is priceless.
True enough, there can’t be a price on a testimony from a cancer survivor who came along with Nissan Malawi to bring hope to the young patients; Chikhulupiliro Ng’ombe a living example of cancer survival spoke to the guardians, parents and children in the ward. He not only gave them hope and courage but also dismissed myths surrounding cancer patients. The more he answered questions from guardians, the more enlightened they were on the disease.
“Bringing hope and bringing a bright picture of hope are two different things” said Ng’ombe, commenting on the experience as a day the patience will never forget. One of the nurses at the ward, Edith Mumba, estimated that patients stay in the ward for 2 or 3 months, therefore Nissan’s visit to the ward has supplied patients with much needed necessities.
