The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) has said it cannot allow more radio stations to register with the board, nor can it allow existing radio stations to expand, citing that the country’s radio spectrum is overloaded.
Stating that there are already 80 broadcasting licenses issued, out of which 50 belong to radio stations, Macra has announced that has ceased granting the licenses.
The communications authority has therefore resolved to re-farm the FM band to free some underutilized space on the spectrum.
